Flight
It starts on the 6.8.23. My sister Sarah drove us to the airport in Frankfurt at 8am. Since I had been canoeing the day before and I was awake until very late in the evening the day before, I was a bit exhausted. At the airport, my mother was recognized by a former student. She was in my mother’s German course 17 years ago (2006/2007). She remembered my mother’s last name. I used to play on the floor as a kid while she was teaching. She even came to us and got in touch again. Cordially. My mother used to utilize playing games with the students. The former student praised her teaching style.
Boardin time
Our flight would go form FRA to ATL (Atlanta).
Because of the weather, a thunderstorm in Atlanta, we couldn’t land in the destination. The Pilot flew some waiting loops (approx. 6), hoping the weather would improve to allow a landing. Before we ran out of kerosene the pilot decided to land at the next possible airport, which was Nashville at that time. My neibough Manny who is a pilot gave me a lot of information, such as that an airplane should generally have kerosene in reserve for 1 hour of flight time, but this number depends on many factors. Refueling an aircraft takes approx. 30min, but we are not expected, so it can easily take half an hour, according to the pilot Manny. We thought we’d miss our connection flight from Atlanta to St. Louis.
We are in an Airbus A330 and the fuel tank is in the wings like in many airplanes. Manny says that such an aircraft 18t (since the density changes here we use the mass instead) fueled with kerosene. I really liked the flight and I watched a movie with Madison who was sitting on my right. In the end we arrive at the Airport in Atlanta. We took a taxi to a Hotel (Holiday inn express). We went and ate some fast food (IHOP) after checking in. The hotel was quiete nice, it had a gym in the first floor.
Nice view
I ran a mile in the morning on the treadmil. We had breakfast wich was sugary and had a lot of calories.
Even the plastic cup was wrapped in plastic foile
At 11am we leave the the hotel with a taxi to head downtown into the city center of Atlanta. The city mostly consists of roads that seem to be orientated in the directions of the compass.
There seem to be many overpasses between buildings.
Not so many pedestrians
Everything seem to be built for car transportation. It seems like a concrete jungle that is inhabited by cars not by human beings.

Waterdispensers in scortching heat 100F (37C)
The tapwater here is not drinkable. There are some Waterfountains scattered around to drink from. The Water does not taste good. I would prefer to drink form a puddle instead. It tastes heavily of clorine. Maybe this is the reason that the home town of Coca Cola is in Atlanta.
Georgia Aquarium
Next stop is the Georgian Aquarium. Every year there are 2.5 million visitors. There are more than 120,000 animals.
It is the 4. biggest aquarium of the world. It is located next to the Coca Cola museum.
The Georgia Aqurium is run by an NGO. There are dolphins, a whaleshark and lots of other sharks located in the facility.

Atlanta Airport
Since 1998, Hartsfield-Jackson has been the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic. In 2022, the airport had over 93.6 million passengers, the most of any airport in the world.[6]
View from coursel A to B
This airport is very big. There is a train going underneath the airport. It is easier to travel by train than to walk to an adjacent coursel.
This airport is a mess in my opinion or it is the flight planning in the states in general. We had so much troubel I won’t go into detail tho.
This is only part of a long queue for the delta support desk
Our plan was to go to St. Louis all this time. There was never a plan to stop in Atlanta. The Airline delta messed up and we were forced to stay from the late evening of the 6th until the next flight that would leave on 7:20pm to Minneapolis and then to St. Louis.
Our flight that was supposed to leave on 7:20 pm to Minneapolis to catch a connection to St. Louis. Our flight to Minneapolis got delayed.
We had asked delta for a direct flight and we got one. This one was supposed to leave on 9pm. It’s delayed until 11pm for now.
People form the US seem to be more okay with this than people form Germany would be.
