In the morning around 9:40am we reached St. Louis.🎉🎊 Finally. Shawn the friend of my parents picked us up. We didn’t even have to wait. We got to his house and ate a bit for breakfast. He is educated and is not at all a typical american citizen.

Today we would go the botanical garden in St. Louis. At noon he drove us on the broad streets through the city to the botanical garden. We passed lost of Universities, hospitals and a really big park (second biggest in the US).

Everything appeared so nice and I really enjoyed the style of the buildings. You wouldn’t find such nice places in Frankfurt for example.

We arrived at the botanical garden and got in. He’s a member and can bring one person in for free. The entrance fee was only 14$ per adult. This botanical garden is the second biggest in the US.There are more than 6.6 million specimens in the botanical garden.

Here are some impressions on the botanical garden.

Ottoman garden

There were themes in the garden. There even was a bavarian themed garden. It was very nice experiencing the different styles of gardening.

hearing part of the “sensory garden”

All throughout the garden there is art from Chihuly a world-renowned glass artist. He is combining art with nature very nicely in my opinion.

touching lillypads

Everything is green and nothing is dry even tho the temperature was over 30°C.

In the Climatron it was humid and there were exotical plants.

Bird of paradise

The walkingpath was playful and had lots of elements.

beautiful landscape

The paths tended to be shady. On sections with flowers and plants that need direct sunlight the was no shadow.

After a while I really enjoyed the glass art. It completes the picture and adds another interesting element with the right composition.

Red and Yellow glas sculpture mirroring the plants underneath

Personally I’m a big fan of old statues. They seem so elegant and true to life. Seeing sculptures of beautiful women or muscular jet realistic man that are proud in their posture and tell a small story is nice. The can also be a interesting history behind the statue that is interesting to me.

The italian artist Carlo Nicoli produced the stature in the 19th century.

After walking 7km in the heat we were happy to return to the temperature controlled environment of the beautiful entrance building.

This was maybe the most beautiful and more certainly the biggest botanical garden I’ve been in so far.

In the US there are so many choices as a consumer. It’s overwhelming.
